Biology of Stress & Emotion
Like any stressed or overloaded process our emotions and the stress in our system will show. Every day symptoms like headaches, muscular aches and pains, sleep disruption, frequent tiredness, digestion problems such as IBS, and more are often directly attributable to stress in our system.
Stress refers to the effect of a challenging situation, and these can be both biological and psychological in nature. With a greater understanding of the effects of stress on you, you are in a better position to manage your health and life more effectively.
Certain life events create pressure – ever faced a charging bull – ever remembered a painful event certain structures in the brain have the job of assessing these events and their emotional significance. it’s a kind of neural tripwire and when its activated it triggers a cascade of reactions in the body.
The body responds in a host of different ways and stress response is sometimes known as the "fight or flight" response because it prepares the body for physical action.
